Fabio Chiti

I am Fabio, I was born and raised in Italy, but moved to the UK 20 years ago to complete my university studies. After being offered a scholarship I decided to stay and eventually ended up in Bishops Stortford where I settled down with my family and a career.

Photography has always been my passion, ever since I learned how to develop film in my teenage years combining science, chemistry and creativity. The dark room was my quiet place where to express myself through images. Still today in the digital age, I spend as much time behind my camera as I do in front of a computer, editing and enhancing my photos. Due to my B&W beginnings and the timeless feel of monochrome photography, most of my work is in B&W or has very simple colour palette.

UK is a fantastic place to meet people with the most amazing life stories and different backgrounds. Therefore I often attempt to take portraits and challenge myself to either capture people personalities or to create visually captivating images. I am always looking for new opportunities to collaborate with anyone who is interested to spend fun time building a visual story or simply creating a special memory.

After a few membership years, this year I become a committee member of the Bishop Stortford Camera Club, which is a great place to meet other passionate photographers, motivate myself through club competitions and learn from many talented friends.

My main photographic interests are landscape and still-life. I try to give some of my photos an artistic appearance, probably because I can’t paint or draw.

I have been a member of Bishop’s Stortford Camera Club for 5 years. We have a varied programme consisting of Photography talks by guest speakers, workshops / practical evenings to help less experienced members, discussion / critique evenings and of course competition evenings.

It’s a friendly club and has some very talented photographers.

Diane Le Count

Having achieved the Credit Award of the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain in November 2021 – described as “Good Club Photography” I was inspired and motivated to pursue the next level up, The Distinction. This award required thorough scrutiny of 15 images by 6 experienced adjudicators which, in their opinion, should be good enough to achieve a high level of acceptance in Open Exhibitions.

The PAGB is a membership organisation that co-ordinates activities for Photography Clubs, including Bishop’s Stortford where I have been an active member for 10 years. It covers Scotland, Wales and Northern Island (including the Channel Islands and Isle of Man)

The journey has been amazing with fantastic support and guidance from camera club members, the East Anglian Federation and my brilliant and very patient mentor, David Gibbins, an experienced and well qualified photographer and presenter, from Nottingham. He had the final say on which projected images to submit for the adjudication which took place in Maidstone, Kent on April 23rd.

When I joined Stortford Camera Club, I knew very little about how my camera worked nor about what makes a good photograph. The programme of presentations, competitions and workshops alongside support by other members, was the inspiration and motivation behind this award. I was over the moon to be one of six out of eighteen photographers in Great Britain to be successful.
