Critiques and Competitions 2020 – 2021

We have a full programme of competitions that are judged and critiqued by independent judges who have kindly agreed to be recorded as they discuss our images.

Here’s your chance to see what happens during these competitions and give you a chance to marvel at some of the amazing images our members create and, perhaps, learn from some of our mistakes.

For all of these I have set the start time of the video when the actual judging started. If you want to see the announcements before the start simply scroll backwards on the video.

First up we have our first competition run on Zoom – this was Round 1 of our PDI competition for the 2020-21 season 1 judge by Alison Jenkins ARPS DPAGB BPE1*

Round 2 of our PDI competition for the 2020-21 season 1 judged by David Steel

Round 3 of our PDI competition for the 2020-21 season 1 judged by Naomi Saul ARPS DPAGB EFIAP APAGB ASINWP BPE4*

Round 4 of our PDI competition for the 2020-21 season 1 judged by Phil Rickets ARPS

Ordinarily we have a print competition through the season which is split between Colour and Monochrome sections. The pandemic put a stop to that so instead we had a second 3 round PDI competition where members could enter 2 monochrome images (of whatever they wanted) amd we also ran a themed colour competition with the themes Red, Lines and Curves and Creative. Members could enter 1 image in this section.

Round 1 – Colour theme Red followed by Monochrome 1 judged by Ron Tear

Round 2 – Colour theme Lines and Curves followed by Monochrome 2 judged by Colin Strong ARPS CPAGB

Round 3 – Colour theme Creative followed by Monochrome 3 judged by Tony Bramley FRPS

Unfortunately the recording failed for the first half and we pick up into the Monochrome Section

The Peter Chastney Competition.

Another print competition repurposed as a DPI competition. You have to make a panel of 5 images that fit a theme. Members then judge the images using the Zoom polling facility and a winner is declared on the night.

The Phototask Competition.

This is an annual competition where members enter 4 images taken from a list of 8 subjects (maximum 1 image per subject). These are scored on the night and the winner declared there and them. This year our judge was Sarah Kelman ARPS.

Unfortunately our compere’s microphone broke immediately before the start of the competition so Sarah had to compere the first half of the evening – back to normal for the second half though!
